This activity is designed to provide participants with structured database searching practice.
1. Show short Youtube clip. https://youtu.be/8fgBF0EuH_o
2. Model a couple of example searches in a subject-specific database. Cover any downloading, citation tools, or other helpful database features.
3. Display a list of questions/topics and have participants practice searching.
4. Group discussion about what worked and what didn’t work. After completing each of the searches, participants will discuss which of the search tools was most helpful or produced the most relevant results for each information need. As part of the post-activity discussion, emphasize the importance of considering the context and the specific information needed when determining where to search for information.
Develop criteria for identifying and evaluating fake news on mass media and/or social media.
Choose 2 fake news stories and 1 story that is not fake news from various media sources on the 2016 Presidential race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to explore deeply by comparing news treatments and researching underlying issues.
Communicate your findings and answer discussion questions.
