Introductory paragraph: Name poet and title of poem. Brief introduction to what “happens” in the poem. Who is the speaker of the poem, and who is he talking to? Where does the poem take place?
Body paragraph One: What is the attitude and the other person mentioned in the poem towards the wall and repairing it? What is the attitude of the two people in the poem towards each other? Does the speaker succeed in planting a “notion” into the antagonists mind?
Body paragraph Two: What do you think the poem is conveying about the wall in this poem? Is it also conveying a message about walls or barriers in general?
Body paragraph Three: Who’s attitude is more convincing to you, the speaker’s or the other person’s? Why?
Body paragraph Four: Is there any irony in the poem? Does the speaker undermine his apparent or obvious beliefs by anything he says or does?
